REST IN PRINT, COLOR MAGAZINE 2003-2013

Today, like every other morning, I reached over for my phone to check my e-mails. I had one from Color Magazine and got stoked thinking they were asking for photos for a new issue which is usually what comes in. As soon as my eyes drifted to the subject, I realized it was a press release announcing the end of the print magazine, haphazardly at their 10-Year Anniversary mark. Feeling pretty bummed, I stayed in bed a while longer thinking about all the great times I had working with the magazine in the past.

Seems like the digital world is taking over slowly but surely. It's just so much more accessible, but not tangible at all. Looking at a photo for 5 seconds, double-tapping, and moving on to the next gives absolutely no justice to the work the artist put in. Sometimes there a subtleties that only come out in a physical, properly sized printed image. Color Magazine has been high in my list of favourite magazines because of the way they considered the fine art world, and aesthetic quality over who is doing what and where. It was a magazine full of strong photography, art and culture, something that isn't exactly replicated in the Canadian market. I'll definitely miss the way Sandro Grison, and ex-photo editor Gordon Nicholas curated those pages. Hopefully the appreciation for this kind of work doesn't go anywhere, and Fourcorners publishing continues to give us an avenue to show and spread this quality of photography that seems to be declining in appreciation.

Thanks for all the support Guys, I can't wait to see what's up your sleeves in the New Year!

Some of my favourite photos have ended up in their pages, take a look at what Color was kind enough to print from me on their pages.

New Issues

In the last stretch of the publishing season for 2013, a few of the last issues of the year have begin hitting the shops. Kingshit, Concrete, and the SBC Photo Annual should now all be available to pick up from local magazine retailers, or skateshops across the country. You shouldn't wait on this either, there is fantastic content from across Canada and beyond, these won't be waiting for you on the shelves - someone is there right now picking one up, or four..

Everyone is definitely closing out 2013 with the bang it deserves. I'm pretty happy that a handful of my images were chosen for these final issues of the year. I was pretty caught up working alongside the crew and Jay Burles on the Aspect Ratio video, among a bunch of other stuff. It's nice to see some memories from the 2013 year in print. Thanks to all the editors that put up with my garbage all year long! Now, check out some teasers from the issues. If this doesn't have you running to your local shop to grab a copy, it's time to find a new hobby.

All these beauties are available at skateshops now!

Concrete surprised me with a nice write-up. Contents Photo - Ryan Gosselin, 50-50 by Sam Fidlin. Portrait shot by Mitch Burton. Issue 128

Torey Pudwill gets in tight with the ceiling at the Big-O in Montreal during the DVS Canadian Bacon Tour. Paying a little homage to Tom Penny, I'm lucky he did this more than once, there were a lot of good frames to choose from, but this one took the cake.

The still of Mitch Barrette's ender finally made it to print in the latest Kingshit. If you haven't already, CLICK THIS and choose the DVD or Download option to get your hands on the 20th Anniversary video that sequels Top Dollar.

Marcus Denis got himself a couple photos while filming for Aspect Ratio. See how fresh the dust from the bubba looks on the ground? There's a story behind this spot, and a reason why you've been seeing it in videos all over the place.

Sam Lind really battled for this one, its in his Aspect Ratio part and if you haven't seen it.. you're missing out.

Current Installations

Since having my solo show at Must Wine Bar last year, I've been able to hold onto a few of my pieces that I lend out to group shows and different businesses in the Ottawa area. Most of these prints have been editioned to a quantity of 15, and are all available for purchase in framed and unframed options. They are printed 11.5 in square, in a 20x20in frame. Prices start at $175 framed, and $110 for the print only.

I currently have a few things up at Fall Down Gallery, which is located at 288 Bank St at the corner of Somerset in Centretown.

I also have two other pieces up at GPC Labworks, directly across the street which is where I do all my processing.

In addition to these locations, I currently have 2 single (1/1) 30 inch prints up for sale at Top Of the World of Spencer Hamilton and Mike Fyfe, and they are currently on sale for just $75. You can find them at 158 Rideau St.

Check out the installation at Fall Down Gallery where I am among plenty of talented Ottawa photographers and artists.

For any inquiries, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail, or give me a call.
